Warm weather is near and many are making their outdoor, Spring cleaning to-do lists but don't neglect the inside of your home just yet. Did you know that attic insulation and ventilation are just as important during warmer months as they are in winter?
What affects can lack of insulation or ventilation do to your roof in warmer temperatures?
Here's what lack of insulation and ventilation can do to your home in hot weather:
Lack of ventilation in the summer can cause your attic to heat up to as much as 150 degrees! Insulation and ventilation work as a team, keeping your attic at a consistant temperature. The temperature in your attic should be very similar to the temperature outside.
Heating and cooling of your attic can cause a number of things to occur. For instance, condensation which leads to mold, damage to your roof decking reducing the life of your shingles due to extreme heat and or moisture and heat/cold air loss when using your furnace or AC.
It's also important to note that when having your roof replaced and the proper amount ventilation is not installed, this may void your warranty if you experience any of the above issues. Even if you're not having your roof replaced you can still have a professional assess your ventilation and address any issues.
Your roof, ventilation and insulation should be installed as a "system" to fully protect your investment and extend the lifespan of your roof.
