Foam vs Fiberglass Insulation

Many think that foam insualtion is easy to install, full proof and makes your home more air tight than blown fiber glass insulation. Not always the case.

Problems with foam insulation:

* Most foams are fast curing which allows the foam to fold over itself and leaves unseen and unsealed areas allowing air to escape

* Many installers do not apply the foam insulation as thick as it needs to be in order to properly insulate your home and if not properly mixed can lead to inaccurate application

* Spray foam settles leaving the areas around it with gaps (pictured below) which will also allow air to escape defeating the purpose altogether

* Foam insulation is bad if you have pipes or wiring that one day require repairs. Foam insulation will need to be chipped away or scraped off in order to perform repairs, leaving your home with open areas for air to travel freely within your attic reducing your R-value

Why Blown Fiberglass Insulation is the way to go:

* Blown fiberglass insulation will not settle over time, maintaining the same energy-saving level over time, maximizing your investment

* Blown fiberglass insulation is less mess and generally costs less than foam insulation

* If your home requires repairs to pipes or wiring in your attic, blown fiberglass insulation can easliy be moved and replaced and won't affect your air flow
