How Long Do I Have To File A Storm Damage Claim?

Wind Damage

We’ve come across many homeowners who have waited months after the storms to file an insurance claim for damage to their home. While many insurance companies provide you with at least 1 year to file a claim, it’s better to have your home inspected immediately following the storm and file your claim- not wait.

In our experience throughout the years, by filing immediately, the odds are more in your favor and waiting will decrease the likelihood of your claim getting approved.

Insurance companies typically only allow for so many claims that they will approve. Once they’ve reached that cap- you’re less likely to get approved because they are now losing money and they’re buckling down.

Of course, this also has a great deal to do with who your provider is. As with everything, it’s important to do your research before choosing an insurance company. Some are known for not covering claims or even going as far as to drop you for even filing a claim.

Before filing a claim, be sure you contact an honest, qualified contractor to assist with guiding you in the right direction. They’ll look at things like- do you have enough damage to constitute a claim? Or is it worth it based on your deductible vs the damage your home incurred?

The last thing we want is for you to file a claim only to be denied for lack of damages. This will leave you with an unnecessary claim on your record.

Here at ABC Roofing, we feel that honesty is the BEST policy! Our team is highly trained to handle insurance claims. We will work diligently on your behalf with both you and your insurance company in attempts to get your claim approved but we won’t lead you based on false claims that we can push your insurance company to pay for your damages.
