We've had a lot of high winds in Indiana these past few weeks. As with any act of nature comes the "storm chasers". Here's what you need to know...
Many companies are misleading home owners by advising them to bypass repairing damaged areas to the roof or siding and are recommending that home owners contact their insurance company for full replacments. Beware of this sales pitch!
While it's a good idea to have the entire roof inspected, it's a bad idea to contact your insuracne agent first. Once you contact the agent for assessment, this is typically already considered a claim, even if damage is not deemed bad enough for insurance to cover.
Most homes that incur wind damage can be fixed with a simple repair. We recommend having your roof inspected by a professional because, in some instances, if the wind damage is bad enough the "seal" of the roof may have been compromised leading to replacement of anything from a small area to the entire roof. Be sure you really trust the roofing contractor you're working with. Some will try and push you to contact your insurance company because they see profit but this may put you in a bind.
Remember, if your insurance agent does not deem the damage bad enough to cover, you could still be charged with a claim- needlessly increasing your rates.
We recommend getting between 2-3 estimates and comparing before moving forward with repairs or replacement. This will allow you to make an educated decision.
